Grants available to Greater Portland nonprofits

Greater Portland nonprofit organizations may be eligible to submit grant proposals to the Maine Community Foundation’s (MaineCF) Welch Charitable Fund. Eligible organizations and projects must serve the Greater Portland area and focus on youth, education, health care, substance-use recovery or the arts.    

In 2022, the Welch Charitable Fund awarded 21 grants totaling $285,641. Grantees included: 

  • Portland Museum of Art, to reinstall three collection galleries 
  • Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center, for school-based learning programs 
  • Robbie Foundation, for essential items and services for children with developmental disabilities. 

The deadline to submit proposals is Tuesday, Aug. 1

The Welch Charitable Fund was started by the late Vinnie and Bobbe Welch who devoted their lives to Greater Portland civic activities and nonprofits, including educational, social service, arts and health care organizations.
