A scholarship means a lot: It’s a vote of confidence, a shot in the arm, a check that means your life just took a turn for the better. At MaineCF, we’re heartened by stories from students and graduates who stride toward the future with support from one of our hundreds of scholarship funds.
Last year, MaineCF helped more than 1,000 students pursue post-secondary study. We saw more students return to school in 2022, especially older, nontraditional students. MaineCF offers both long-term support for adult learners seeking degrees and short-term scholarships for certification or licensing.
Many scholarship funds honor others – a favorite teacher or someone we’ve lost. Other donors aspire to inspire students in a field close to their heart with scholarships that provide tuition assistance in specific fields of study:
- The Francis X. Langlois Scholarship Fund, established through a bequest, provides funding for health care studies.
- The new William J. Murtagh Scholarship Fund for Graduate Historic Preservation Studies supports many facets of historic preservation education, including oral history – especially for Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
We hope to reach more students this year who we may have missed in the past. Our new scholarship interns will travel across the state to host workshops starting in February where students and families can learn more and apply for scholarships. Keep an eye on our social media and website to see if a workshop is scheduled in your area – and please reach out to Jackie Shannon on our scholarships team if you think we should plan one near you.
