Franklin County Scholarships
Addie J. Stanley & Cora B. Cothren Scholarship Fund
Created by two separate trusts that were combined in 1993, the fund provides scholarship support to graduates of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington who are pursuing post-secondary education.

Beth Eisen Scholarship Fund
Beth Eisen was a hugely original Waterville artist and writer whose worked spanned fabric, paint, found objects and other media, screenplays, novels, short stories, poetry and essays. Sharing the love of all things creative extended to her work at Shadow Distribution and the Maine International Film Festival. This fund created in her honor supports a student at the University of Maine at Farmington who takes classes in the creative writing program and has demonstrated a passion for creativity and great promise as a writer as evidenced by submitted samples; this student need not be a creative writing major. Preference shall be given to non-traditional students.

Brent R. Churchill Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Brent R. Churchill Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the employees of Central Maine Power Company in honor of Brent Churchill’s deep commitment to community service. The fund provides scholarship assistance to a graduating senior of Mt. Blue High School, including those who attend classes at Foster Applied Technology Center, who is pursuing post-secondary education at a university, community college or business school with a curriculum of at least one year.

Carrabassett Valley Academy Fund

Edwin and Eleanor Swain Scholarship Fund
Established in 2012, the Swain Fund supports graduating seniors in Oxford County and Franklin County, Maine regions in their pursuit of post-secondary education. Eligible applicants will be, in priority order, 1) residents of Bethel or graduating students of Telstar High School who are residents of Oxford County; 2) residents of Rangeley or 3) residents of Oxford or Franklin County. Selection will be made on both academic merit and financial need, with preference for the latter. Students must be enrolled full-time in an accredited, nonprofit college or university. There is a preference for students pursuing studies in the sciences, engineering, or computer science and for students pursuing a four-year degree.

Gerald Strickland New Portland Lions Club Scholarship Fund
Established by the New Portland Lions Club in memory of member Gerald Strickland, this scholarship supports graduating seniors at Carrabec, Mt. Abram, and Upper Kennebec Valley High Schools who are pursuing a post-secondary degree.

Hartley C. Farmer Scholarship Fund
This fund supports graduates of Mt. Blue High School who are attending a community college to pursue a career in the building trades. There is a preference for residents of the town of Temple and applicants with a demonstrated interest in pursuing carpentry. Graduates of Mt. Blue who entered the military after high school and who have since been honorably discharged are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Hugh and Elizabeth Montgomery Scholarship Fund
Both Elizabeth (Betty) and Hugh Montgomery had their roots in Phillips, Maine. Betty was born in Phillips and attended schools there and Hugh summered there in the old farmhouse that belonged in his family. They both went to college, Betty to Simmons and Hugh to Harvard, and pursued careers as librarians. Their wish was that this fund would provide the opportunity for deserving students of Franklin County to receive financial assistance towards furthering their education. This renewable scholarship supports residents of Franklin County who are adult learners (students who are beyond high-school age) returning to school to continue their education at the post-secondary level. There is preference for students for whom a scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend school. First-time applicants need not be enrolled in a degree-granting program but are encouraged to make that commitment before applying for renewal consideration.

Moodey Family Fund for Maine
James and Penelope Moodey established this scholarship to encourage students to continue their education and think seriously about a professional career in Maine. Our state needs qualified, dedicated teachers and health care and social service providers.
This renewable scholarship supports graduating seniors of Mt. Blue High School who plan to major in education, health or social service programs at a two- or four-year college or university. Students will be selected based on their passionate commitment to community service as well as demonstrated determination to succeed in college. In the case of equally qualified applicants, financial need shall be considered. Preference will be given to the children of parents working in the fields of education, health or social service in Maine.

The Rangeley Region Guides & Sportsmen Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 to support scholarships to graduates of local high schools who have gone through the Junior Guides program.

Sugarloaf Ski Club
The Maine Community Foundation partners with the Sugarloaf Ski Club to make several scholarship funds available to assist youth that reside Franklin and Somerset counties for participation in Sugarloaf Mountain skiing, snowboarding, and Nordic programs.

Uncle Al Scholarship Fund
The Uncle Al Fund was established to support further instructions or musical development of musicians who are seeking to expand both their understanding of and skill level on their chosen instrument(s). Preference will be shown to musicians who play acoustic instruments, including "voice," and live in Franklin or Somerset counties.

William Bingham 2nd Scholarship for Adult Learners Fund
William Bingham was a self-effacing philanthropist who lived in Bethel. During his lifetime, Mr. Bingham provided funds for many Maine students to pay for their education, including Edmund Muskie and Dr. Daniel Hanley. At Mr. Bingham’s death, his will created the Betterment Fund, a private foundation dedicated to residents of the state of Maine. This scholarship was opened in 2017 in honor of William B. Winship, who retired as a trustee of the Betterment Fund after 40 years of service.
This renewable scholarship supports residents of Oxford, Franklin, and Somerset counties who are adult learners (students who are beyond high-school age) returning to school to continue their education at the post-secondary level. The fund supports post-secondary education in its broadest interpretation, which includes enrollment in traditional two- and four-year colleges and universities, but could also apply to certificate programs, and other professional or technical training opportunities
Application to the Bingham fund is handled through the Adult Learner Scholarship.
