Late in 2023, MaineCF learned of some very sad news; former board member Art Thompson passed away just before Christmas. In addition to serving on MaineCF’s Board of Directors, Art was a former Aroostook County Committee member, a fundholder, and donor. He was an active, tremendous force for good in our state and leaves behind an incredible legacy of community building and giving. He wore his love for MaineCF on his sleeve and was a tremendous advocate throughout Maine for the foundation’s mission and work. He was beloved by board members during his nine years of service.
As the news of his passing began to circulate among our staff and board, many shared touching personal memories of their interactions with him. He will be greatly missed. A full obituary has now been published in the Bangor Daily News; additionally, MaineCF will publish remembrance of Art in an upcoming issue of Maine Ties this spring.
