Disaster Relief: Some Resources

In the wake of a series of devastating natural and man-made disasters, the Maine Community Foundation has set up this page as a resource for people looking for information about how to support relief efforts. We will update the information and add new resources as they become available. As you consider ways in which to help, please keep in mind the “Principles of Good Disaster Grantmaking” listed below.

Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Minimize

The Greater New Orleans Founation (GNOF) has opened a Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund. To find out how you can donate, click here. GNOF also has a list of resources and information for people who want to stay in tune with the latest developments.

In response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill the Greater Escambia Community Foundation has created the Pensacola Environmental Relief Fund. The Fund will support nonprofit organizations engaged in first response work as well as long-term cleanup efforts in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. The fund will support efforts to asses, protect, and clean up the fragile coastlines and wildlife.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Florida, has also opened an oil spill disaster relief fund. For more information and instructions on how to donate, click here.

The Northern California Grantmakers website has a list of Gulf Coast disaster information and relief resources.
