John and Bessie Adams Scholarship
The Adams Scholarship was funded by the estates of John Adams and Harriette Gardner. It provides support to graduates of Calais High School who are pursuing post-secondary education. Preference is given to residents of Calais.

Kingsley Brown Educational Fund
The Kingsley Brown Educational Fund was established by the friends and family of Kingsley Alcid Brown to provide scholarship support for higher education at the graduate school level for graduates of high schools in Washington County, Maine. Applicants must be accepted into an accredited graduate degree program to receive an award.

The Stanya Dorr Scholarship Fund provides scholarship assistance to residents of Steuben, Maine, who are graduating seniors at Sumner Memorial High School pursuing post-secondary education.

Downeast Scholarship Fund
The Downeast Scholarship Fund, a collaboration of The Boston Foundation and the Maine Community Foundation, has made a ten-year commitment to support students who are prepared for the challenge of furthering their education beyond high school by awarding renewable scholarships that will meet a major portion of their financial need. During the early stages of the fund, there will be a minimum of 10 new scholarships awarded annually.
Eligible applicants are graduating seniors at high schools in Washington County and Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan pursuing post-secondary education in a degree program at the University of Maine at Orono, University of Maine at Machias, Maine Maritime Academy, or Washington County Community College. Students attending Hancock County Technical Center, St. Croix Regional Technical Center and Coastal Washington County Institute of Technology are eligible if they graduate from one of the high schools above or from their technical school. Applicants must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credits per semester). Recipients who successfully complete a two-year degree program at WCCC and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at UMO, UMM or Maine Maritime Academy and meet all other requirements of the scholarship may apply for renewal consideration.

Laurence M. and Phyllis M. Drisko Scholarship
The Laurence M. and Phyllis M. Drisko Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 through a bequest by Mrs. Drisko. The Fund provides renewable support to a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Columbia Falls pursuing a degree at a two- or four-year college or university.

George W. Frye Scholarship
This fund was established to provide scholarship assistance to graduating seniors of Narraguagus High School in Harrington who plan to attend a two- or four- year college or university. Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need to a student in good academic standing. Priority will be given to students from the Town of Harrington.

Gracie Fund
The Gracie Fund offers tuition-reimbursement incentives to encourage natives of Washington County, or those who consider Washington County their home, to establish roots in the community after they finish their post-secondary education. Students who have graduated from college within five years of the date of application and are building a professional and personal life in Washington County are eligible to apply. The Gracie Fund fosters community development by helping recipients connect to Washington County through their commitment to a career and community service. School loan repayment awards of up to $5,000 will be awarded to three individuals each year. Awards may be renewed for up to three years.
The Maine Community Foundation and the Sunrise County Economic Council, located in Washington County, jointly administer the Gracie Fund.

The Holmes Fund was established by the estate of Josephine C. Moore and provides scholarships to residents of Calais wishing to pursue higher education.

The Cad and Dorothy Kelley Scholarship Fund provides support to two members of the graduating class of Lubec High School who are residents of Lubec to pursue post-secondary education.

This scholarship was established by the estate of Barrett Lewis to provide scholarship support to students who have graduated from Lubec High School to attend a post-secondary college or community college.

Marilla W. and Harold A. Lund Scholarship
The Marilla W. and Harold A. Lund Scholarship provides renewable support to graduating seniors of Washington County high schools to pursue post-secondary education at a four-year college or university. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a level of academic achievement suitable for predicting success in college, strong character and family values, and financial need. Preference is given to first-generation college students.

The Marshall Education Achievement Award was established by the Marshall Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Marshall Care Center and Marshall’s Assisted Living Center to recognize an outstanding graduating student of the RN program at Washington County Community College.

This scholarship was established in 1993 by friends and family in memory of Beverly McCurdy, a teacher and lifelong resident of Machias. The fund will provide a scholarship to a deserving graduate of Machias High School.

Nancy Andrews Morse ('57) Alumni Scholarship
The Nancy A. Morse ('57) Scholarship Fund provides support to students from Washington County enrolled in a technical or certificate program (other than boat building) at Washington County Community College. Preference is given to students from Lubec.

Henry R. Nash Memorial Scholarship
The Henry M. Nash Memorial Scholarship Fund supports graduating seniors of Narraguagus High School who are residents of Harrington in their pursuit of post-secondary education.

Lee Patterson Scholarship for Classical Voice Training
Lee Patterson established this scholarship in 2001 for classical voice training (opera, operettas, and art song literature composed between 1600 and 1920). Recipients will agree to sing with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine during the term of their scholarship. Minimum age to apply is 14. Preference will be given to residents of Hancock and Washington Counties.

The Pinkham Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Harry F. Pinkham. The fund will provide scholarship assistance to a graduating senior from Narraguagus High School and Sumner High School (who is a resident of Steuben) to enroll in a technical or trade program at a post-secondary college.

James and Marilyn Rockefeller Scholarship
The James and Marilyn Rockefeller Scholarship Fund supports residents of Knox, Waldo, or Washington Counties over the age of 18 who, by circumstance or design, are on a “road less traveled” and are seeking traditional or nontraditional educational experiences that will change their lives and the lives of people around them. The committee is looking for applicants who have encountered circumstances that required uncommon tenacity, focus, hope, and humor, and/or who are choosing to pursue a meaningful life change that requires additional education. These applicants demonstrate a determination to succeed, are serious about learning, and have a plan (academic and financial) to achieve their goal. For students who have not encountered the circumstances referred to above, we wish you the best of luck, but this scholarship is not for you.

Sager Family Science Education Fund
The Sager Family Science Education Fund supports a graduating senior at Woodland High School pursuing post-secondary education at a two- or four-year college or university. Preference is given to students studying the physical sciences (generally considered to include astronomy, chemistry, geology, mineralogy, meteorology, and physics) or engineering. Bill and Marilyn Sager shared almost 65 years together pursuing a passion for learning, discovery, and education with students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Their love of nature drew them to Meddybemps, Maine, for more than 50 summers, where the family learned to boat, swim, fish, and appreciate wild creatures and each other. Their family created this fund to encourage students to follow a similar path of discovery.

Henry L.P. Schmelzer College Transitions Scholarship Fund
Throughout his tenure as President and CEO of the Maine Community Foundation, Hank Schmelzer was a consistent advocate for the importance of higher education in Maine and helped to launch the Maine Compact for Higher Education in 2003. At his retirement in December 2008, generous donors recognized Hank’s leadership by establishing the Henry L.P. Schmelzer College Transitions Scholarship Fund to support the post-secondary aspirations of Maine adults returning to school.
This fund supports non-traditional students who have successfully completed the Onward program and have matriculated into the University of Maine, Orono. Consideration may also be given to students who have successfully completed at least one year of the Onward Program but who have yet to matriculate into the University of Maine, Orono. Preference will be given to residents of (in priority order) Hancock County, Washington County, and statewide. There is no application for this scholarship. Recipients will be chosen annually from the pool of eligible Onward Program students.
