Beverly M. McCurdy Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in 1993 by friends and family in memory of Beverly McCurdy, a teacher and life-long resident of Machias. The fund will provide a scholarship to a deserving graduate of Machias High School.

Cad and Dorothy Kelley Scholarship Fund

The Cad and Dorothy Kelley Scholarship Fund provides support to two graduating seniors who are residents of Lubec to pursue post-secondary education.

Calkins-Walton Annual Scholarship Fund

Established in 2012, the Calkins-Walton Annual Scholarship provides scholarship assistance to students from Lubec who have graduated from Washington Academy to attend a post-secondary college or technical school. Award shall be given based on student potential and performance and not on the student's financial need.

Carolyn Lewis Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established by the estate of Barrett Lewis to provide scholarship support to residents of Lubec to attend a post-secondary college or community college.

Charles A. Stewart, Jr., Scholarship Fund

The Charles A. Stewart, Jr., Scholarship Fund provides support to residents of Cherryfield who are graduating seniors or recent graduates of Narraguagus High School to pursue post-secondary education.

DEIF-Downeast Institute Friends of Crumple Island School Fund

The Maine Community Foundation partners with the Downeast Institute to make scholarships available to interns at DEI with recipients selected by DEI. There is a preference for students attending University of Maine at Machias. Please contact the Downeast Institute for information concerning these opportunities.

George J. Schaefer Memorial Scholarship Fund

The George J. Schaefer Memorial Scholarship Fund provides post-secondary scholarship assistance to graduates of Sumner Memorial High School who show leadership as scholar athletes. There is a preference for graduating seniors as well as a preference for those applicants with a demonstrated commitment to the community.

George W. Frye Scholarship Fund

This fund was established to provide scholarship assistance to graduating seniors of Narraguagus High School in Harrington who plan to attend a two- or four- year college or university. Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need to a student in good academic standing. Priority will be given to students from the town of Harrington.

Gracie Fund

The Gracie Fund offers tuition reimbursement to encourage natives of Washington County, or those who consider Washington County their “home”, to return to or remain in their communities following completion of their post-secondary education. The Gracie Fund fosters community development by helping recipients connect to Washington County through their commitment to a career and community service. School loan repayment awards of up to $5,000 will be awarded each year. Awards may be renewed for up to three years. The IRS considers these awards taxable income. The Gracie Fund invites applications from natives of Washington County, or those who consider Washington County their “home,” who have graduated from college within five years of the date of application and are building a professional and personal life in Washington County. Preference will be given to applicants moving back to Washington County. The preference is for applicants who intend to work and live in Washington County for a minimum of two years. Applicants must commit to fulfill their community service obligation by volunteering with a Washington County organization.

Harry F. Pinkham Scholarship Fund

The Harry F. Pinkham scholarship provides assistance to a graduating senior from Narraguagus High School and Sumner High School (who is a resident of Steuben) to enroll in a technical or trade program at a post-secondary college.

Henry R. Nash Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Henry M. Nash Memorial Scholarship Fund supports graduating seniors of Narraguagus High School who are residents of Harrington in their pursuit of post-secondary education.

Holmes Fund

The Holmes Fund was established by the estate of Josephine C. Moore and provides scholarships to residents of Calais wishing to pursue higher education.

John & Bessie Adams Scholarship Fund

The Adams Scholarship was funded by the estates of John Adams and Harriette Gardner. It provides support to graduates of Calais Memorial High School who are pursuing post-secondary education. Preference is for residents of Calais.

Kingsley Brown Educational Fund

The Kingsley Brown Educational Fund was established by the friends and family of Kingsley Alcid Brown to provide scholarship support for higher education at the graduate school level for graduates of high schools in Washington County. Applicants must be accepted into an accredited graduate degree program to receive an award.

Laurence M. and Phyllis M. Drisko Scholarship Fund

The Laurence M. and Phyllis M. Drisko Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 through a bequest by Mrs. Drisko. The Fund provides renewable support to a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Columbia Falls pursuing a degree at a two- or four-year college or university.

Leander B. and Clara F. Wass Fund

The Leander B. nad Clara F. Wass Fund was established through a bequest in 2012 to be distributed to Narraguagus High School to provide scholarship assistance to up to two (2) students per year who reside in Addison, Maine to attend any campus of the University of Maine system.

Lee Patterson Scholarship Fund for Classical Voice Training

Lee Patterson established this scholarship in 2001 for classical voice training (opera, operettas and art song literature composed between 1600-1920). Recipients will agree to sing with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine during the term of their scholarship. Minimum age to apply is 14. Preference will be given to residents of Hancock and Washington counties.

Leo J. Sexton Scholarship Fund

The Sexton Fund, established by the estate of Leo J. Sexton in 1958, provides scholarship support to graduating seniors at Machias Memorial High School.

Marilla W. and Harold A. Lund Scholarship Fund

The Marilla W. and Harold A. Lund Scholarship provides renewable support to graduating seniors of Washington County high schools to pursue post-secondary education at a four-year college or university. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a level of academic achievement suitable for predicting success in college, strong character and family values, and financial need. There is a preference for first-generation college students.

Marshall Education Achievement Award

The Marshall Education Achievement Award was established by the Marshall Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Marshall Care Center and Marshall’s Assisted Living Center to provide scholarship assistance to graduating seniors at Machias Memorial High School who are entering post-secondary study in a health care field with a preference for nursing.

Nancy A. Morse ('57) Scholarship Fund

The Nancy A. Morse ('57) Scholarship Fund provides support to students from Washington County enrolled in a technical or certificate program (other than boat building) at Washington County Community College. There is a preference for students from Lubec.

Nancy L. Pinkham Scholarship Fund

The Nancy L. Pinkham Scholarship Fund supports residents of Milbridge who are graduating seniors at Narraguagus High School pursuing post-secondary education at a community college.

Sager Family Science Education Fund

The Sager Family Science Education Fund supports a graduating senior at Woodland High School pursuing post-secondary education at a two- or four-year college or university. Preference is given to students studying the physical sciences (generally considered to include astronomy, chemistry, geology, mineralogy, meteorology, and physics) or engineering. Bill and Marilyn Sager shared almost 65 years together pursuing a passion for learning, discovery, and education with students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Their love of nature drew them to Meddybemps, Maine, for more than 50 summers, where the family learned to boat, swim, fish, and appreciate wild creatures and each other. Their family created this fund to encourage students to follow a similar path of discovery.

Sally Stetson Tongren Scholarship Fund for Washington County

This scholarship is available to graduating seniors from Washington County who are seeking post-secondary education. Eligible post-secondary education can include, but not be limited to, undergraduate education, trade and technical education and post-secondary remedial education. Graduate education may be considered for renewal candidates.

Stanya Dorr Scholarship Fund

The Stanya Dorr Scholarship Fund provides scholarship assistance to residents of Steuben who are graduating seniors at Sumner Memorial High School pursuing post-secondary education.

Strater Downeast Scholarship Fund

The Strater Downeast Scholarship Fund is available to graduating seniors at high schools in Washington County and Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan pursuing post-secondary education in a degree program at the University of Maine, University of Maine at Machias, Maine Maritime Academy, or Washington County Community College. Applicants must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credits per semester). Recipients who successfully complete a two-year degree program at WCCC and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at UM, UMM or Maine Maritime and meet all other requirements of the scholarship may apply for renewal consideration.
