The information on this page is for renewal applicants only. If you have not previously received the scholarship you are applying for, please return to the scholarship section for new applicants and follow the instructions under the appropriate fund. If you are not sure which scholarship you received, please contact Liz Fickett at efickett@mainecf.org or (207) 412-2015.

Online Application

The Maine Community Foundation's online renewal application is available this year for many of our scholarships. Please check this link for a list of scholarships with online applications.

Renewal Process for Scholarships with Online Applications

To complete your online renewal scholarship application from the Maine Community Foundation, read these instructions thoroughly and then follow the link provided. Required uploads are listed below.

All renewals require:

  • Your most recent transcript or grade report (which must include your name, grades for all semesters of study to December 2016, and GPA).

Some renewals require:

  • Two letters of recommendation. You can upload these, or you may provide an email address to invite someone to upload a letter to your account. Applicants will need the email addresses of those who recommend them. Your application cannot be submitted until your letters have been submitted, so it is recommended to start here. Plan ahead and allow plenty of time to complete this step.
  •  Your college’s financial aid offer. If you have not received the information for next year, you may upload the current year’s letter. If you are just starting college, and have not received your award letter yet, upload a placeholder document. When you receive your letter, send a copy to Maine Community Foundation, 245 Main St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
  • Your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA. This is a seven-page (or so) document and will include your EFC as well as your family’s adjusted gross income. Please do not send us the FAFSA application.

NOTE: If you are applying for more than one scholarship, you will complete the Common Application with all its uploads just one time. Each scholarship will have its own, separate essay portion for you to complete.

Completing the Application

Follow this link to our online application

  • First-time users of the online application system: Create your account at Log In and Sign Up Here. Once you register with the system, this information will exist for future years. Use a personal, unique email address to register. This will become your user log-in. Choose a memorable password. If you forget your user log-in, contact Liz Fickett, (207) 412-2015 or efickett@mainecf.org and she can help you. However, if you forget your password, there is retrieval/resetting assistance on the site - please use it. Do not set up another account.
  • As a first-time user, after you register, you'll receive a confirmation email to activate your account by clicking the link. Remember to check your email, including spam, after registration to confirm your account.
  • Applicants who already have an account in our system: Use the email address that you used last year to sign in. If you've forgotten your email address, contact Liz Fickett at efickett@mainecf.org and she'll send it to you. If you've forgotten your password, there is retrieval/resetting assistance on the site - please use it. Do not set up another new account. Once you've signed in, you can change your email address or password, if you wish.
  • Register just once, and do not create multiple accounts. Parents, if you are assisting your child with an application, please do not create an account for yourself. Each student may have only one account.
  • After activating your account (if you're a first-time user) and signing in (all users), open the Eligibility Quiz to access the renewal applications. Answer “yes” to the first question, Are you renewing any scholarships? For the time being, answer "no" to the question Would you like to see which Scholarships you are eligible to apply for as a New Applicant? (You can always return to the Eligibility Quiz later and choose to search for other scholarships to which you may be eligible to apply for the first time.)
  • At the bottom of the page, select Save & Next. You will be brought to your scholarship home page.
  • Scroll to the bottom of this home page and click on the blue View Scholarships button to be brought to the list of renewable scholarships.
  • Click on the name of the scholarship you are renewing. If you are renewing more than one, you can return to this page multiple times.
  • Depending on which scholarship you are renewing, you may need to fill out an entire Common Application and provide the uploads indicated, and write to an essay prompt, or you may be presented with a short renewal registration and essay prompt with required uploads.This step does need to be completed each year.
  • Read each section carefully and provide answers for each field. If a question doesn’t apply to you, type in n/a. Do not leave any blank spaces.
  • Look carefully over your responses before submitting your application. You will be unable to make changes after submitting it. When your application is complete, including all uploads, follow the instructions to submit it.
  • You may stop, save, and restart an application at any time until 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date. Everything you input onto the application is saved for your next session.
  • Once an application is submitted, you may view it and print it, but you may not make any changes to it.
  • If you have any questions about eligibility, the application, and supporting documentation, contact Liz Fickett well before the deadline. Her desk phone number is (207) 412-2015, or email her at efickett@mainecf.org. Her office hours are 8 to 4 every day, and often she’s there until 5.
  • For technical problems, click on HELP on the upper right corner of each page for the link to technical support within the online site. If you are on a page without a HELP sign, you can access assistance by clicking on your name from the upper right corner of the screen after registering, and clicking Help from the drop-down menu.
  • Our deadlines are firm. Weekend deadline dates are strictly observed as well. Staff assistance is not available after 4 p.m. on Fridays, so please plan accordingly and get an early start.
  • Return to the eligibility questionnaire whenever you’d like to see if there are other scholarships for which you're eligible.
  • It is your responsibility to regularly check your email, including spam filter, to receive important notifications and reminders from the Maine Community Foundation.

Allen C. & Leurene F. Hodgkins Scholarship Fund

Hodgkins Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are invited to submit an Allen C. and Leurene F. Hodgkins Scholarship application (available in PDF or RTF format) for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year. Please include an official transcript from your fall semester - a printout from the internet is not acceptable.

Annette M. Brown Scholarship Fund

Annette M. Brown Scholarship recipients in good standing are invited to submit an online application for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year. Preference will be given to students in their second, third and fourth year of post-secondary school who might not have access to high school scholarship awards available to first year students. Aspire Scholarship Fund

Aspire Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are invited to apply online for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year. Please note that if you are applying for renewal consideration and you have dropped a course, you must notify the foundation.

Use your personal statement to tell us about your college experiences and your goals for next year. The committee is especially interested in hearing about any obstacles you are facing, how you hope to overcome them, and how the committee might be able to help you.

In order to submit your renewal application, you will need to upload the following support documents:

  • An official transcript from your fall semester
  • Your complete Federal Student Aid Report (SAR), which must include your expected family contribution (EFC) and your family’s adjusted gross income (AGI). Do not send the FAFSA.

Downeast Scholarship Fund

Downeast Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are encouraged to complete an online renewal application for consideration throughout their post-secondary education.

Your personal letter, grades, and college financial aid award letter are critically important components of your application. Please follow the submission guidelines carefully. Applicants must be enrolled full time (minimum of 12 credits per semester). Recipients who successfully complete a two-year degree program at WCCC and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at UMO, UMM, or Maine Maritime and meet all other requirements of the scholarship may apply for renewal consideration.

Recipients of the Malaga 1912 Scholarship in good academic standing are encouraged to submit an application for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year.

In order to submit your renewal application, you will need to provide the following support documents:

You do not need to provide proof of ancestry when submitting a renewal application. You may apply once per academic year.
